Great classic railways come to life

Amtrak - The 'bullet train' comes to America with Amtrak's new Acela high-speed train running the busy US Northeast Corridor

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway - Experience the challenges and awesome power of moving today's freight through the spectacular Marias Pass and along the southern border of Glacier National Park in Montana

The Flying Scotsman Railways - Race along some of England's most beautiful countryside in the late 1920s in what is arguably the world's most famous steam locomotive

Kyushu Railway Company- Explore the mountainous Hisatsu line on Japan's southern island of Kyushu

Odakyu Electric Railway - Navigate one of the busiest commuter lines out of Tokyo or take in the breathtaking scenery of Mt. Fuji

The Venice Simplon Orient Express - Visit the Austrian Alps in the 1930s for the ultimate in romantic European steam train travel

Driveable locomotives

Amtrak Acela (SM) Express - Consisting of five passenger cars, a café car and two 6,000 hp power cars, it uses a state-of-the-art tilt system to take curves at speeds of 165mph

Amtrak Acela (SM) HHP-8 - This dual cab, pulling up to 18 passenger cars, is the most powerful locomotive in Train Simulator

GE-9-44CW ('Dash 9') - This modern diesel-electric locomotive is designed to be very effective at pulling loads over long stretches at freight-train speeds

GP38-2 - A popular and versatile performer on North American railroads, this diesel-electric locomotive is still being used 25 years after first hitting the rails

KIHA 31 - The KIHA is a dual cab (front and rear), self-propelled, diesel-hydraulic, passenger railway car with a modest 246hp engine

Flying Scotsman - A great symbol of power and elegance that holds the world record for a non-stop regular service run and was the first steam locomotive to achieve a speed of 100mph

Gölsdorf Series 380 - Designed by famed Austrian locomotive designer Karl Gölsdorf, its high tractive efforts make it a natural for pulling the Orient Express passenger train through the mountainous regions of Austria

2000 Series - Designed for the commuter, this is one of the first 'Super High Technology' trains

7000 LSE Series - Completely rebuilt in 1996, it affords unusual luxury to its passengers on the Tokyo-Hakone line

Real-world challenges

Adhere to the briefings and complete the tasks while being judged on your operations, timetable/work order, speed limits and train handling. Tasks include:

Driving a passenger train and making scheduled stops at stations according to a timetable

Delivering freight from one location to another on a main line

Operating a freight train on a local run, making pick-ups and drop-offs at industries along the way

Solving complex switching puzzles from the cab of a yard locomotive as you assemble cars into trains

Designing your own activity using the Activity Editor

Dynamic environments

Dynamic weather conditions and realistic daylight changes affect the performance of the locomotives… your visibility will change as light levels vary and variable weather conditions such as snow and rain will affect track conditions.

Expandable

Even more challenges lie ahead, because Train Simulator offers you the chance to create and customise new trains, routes, scenery and challenges

Create your own driveable locomotive, or customise existing ones. Then use Cab Editor to design your own interactive view of the cab

Create custom routes based on your imagination, or modify any of the six routes included within Train Simulator via the Route Editor

Create terrain via Geography Creator, then load it into Route Editor to develop your own environments

Train Simulator's open architecture enables enthusiasts, societies and third-party developers to expand Train Simulator's horizons by customising almost every facet of the simulation
